ITALY, July 28, 2025 (Cronache Maceratesi translated from Italial): Starting today, in Piazza San Marco, next to Camporotondo’s town hall, the statue of the Indian poet Maharishi Valmiki will not only be a point of reference for the Indian community living in the area, but also a symbol of integration and acceptance between Italian and Indian cultures. The inauguration ceremony took place this morning (July 28, 2025). Camporotondo Mayor Massimiliano Micucci welcomed Indian Ambassador to Italy Vani Rao, Deputy Ambassador Amararam Gurjar, and President of the Indo-Italian Culture and Welfare Association Vishnu Kumar Soni. Also in attendance were Councilor Ermanno Micucci of the Municipality of Cessapalombo (another town with a large Indian population), and the Commander of the Tolentino Carabinieri Company, Giulia Maggi.

“Our Prime Minister’s goal,” Ambassador Rao stated, “is to strengthen relations with Italy, especially in the cultural and religious spheres. The temple dedicated to Valmiki, which houses the epic Ramayana written by the Indian poet himself, is a point of reference for many of our compatriots who live in these areas and who organize the festival dedicated to Valmiki in October.” The welcome and openness the Indian community has received in Camporotondo was then reiterated: “There’s an inclusive community here,” said Vishnu Kumar Soni, “that’s why we chose this municipality to host the statue of Valmiki, along with the only temple dedicated to him in the entire country. Mayor Micucci also emphasized how Camporotondo has been an example of the integration of new immigrants (into Italian society) for years: “Of the 420 residents,” he said, “41 are Indian nationals, 23 are non-citizens, and 18 are citizens. This community has been part of us for 30 years and is fully integrated. The statue was made in India and sent to Camporotondo by our Prime Minister, whom we thank for his cooperation.”
